How much does a website cost? Three ways

What a website costs depends mostly on who does the work: you, a freelancer or agency, or a subscription. Here are the three ways side by side, with our own prices.

“How much does a website cost?” has no single answer. It runs from a few pounds or dollars a month to several thousand in one go, because there are three genuinely different ways of getting one. Here they are side by side, including the two that aren’t ours.

1. Build it yourself with a website builder

With a builder, you make the website yourself from a template. Monthly plans usually start low, but hosting, a domain name and extras are often billed on top, so read the plan carefully before you compare.

What you save in money, you spend in time. You pick the design, write the words, find photos, test it on your phone and keep it all up to date. If you enjoy that, it works well. If you’re busy with your own trade, the website tends to become the thing that never quite gets finished.

2. A freelancer or web agency

With bespoke work, you’re paying for someone’s time. Quotes vary enormously between freelancers, agencies and countries, so we won’t pretend there’s a typical figure: ask for a written quote that says exactly what’s included. Hosting, a domain name and upkeep are usually extra.

This often gives the most personal result. The drawback: you pay most of it up front, before you know how well the website suits you, and every later change costs hours again.

3. A subscription, like ours

With a subscription, we make the website and look after it. You pay a clear amount each month and build nothing yourself. You see your example first, free. We make it and send you the link as soon as it’s ready. Like it? Your website is live within 24 hours of you approving the final version.

What’s in our monthly price?

  • your own domain name, in your name;
  • hosting, security (the padlock in the browser) and upkeep;
  • your details easy for Google and AI assistants to find and read;
  • your website and your Google Business Profile showing the same details; with Counter and Store we keep that profile up to date too;
  • changes every month: 2 with Shopfront, 5 with Counter and 10 with Store.

Our prices

All prices are in euros and exclude VAT.

  • Shopfront, €39 a month. A website of up to 5 pages. No set-up fee.
  • Counter, €59 a month. Up to 10 pages and one extra feature of your choice, such as bookings or appointments. No set-up fee.
  • Store, €179 a month. Up to 20 pages and an online shop of up to 50 products. No set-up fee.

A subscription runs for at least 12 months. After that you can cancel any month, with one month’s notice. Pay the first year in one go and you get 2 months free: €390 for Shopfront. Move up to a bigger package later? You pay nothing extra.

The same monthly price for two years. You become a customer on the day you order: you say yes and pay the first invoice. Do that before 1 July 2027 and the monthly price of your package stays the same for two years, counted from the day your website goes live. That still applies if we raise our prices in the meantime. If you switch to another package, you pay that package’s price at the time.

What costs extra?

An extra small change beyond your package’s allowance is €25 excl. VAT. For anything else outside your package you always get a price first, and we only start once you agree: new pages or features, a mobile app, links to other systems, flyers and business cards. With an online shop, the payment provider charges a small fee on each payment, which you pay to the provider directly.

One thing we say plainly: the website itself stays ours until you take it over. You can do that after the minimum term, for around €195 with Shopfront. The domain name is always yours, and so are your own words, photos and logo.

Which option suits you?

If you have the time and enjoy building, a website builder is a fine start. If you want a fully bespoke design, an agency is the right call. If you want a well-kept website without working on it yourself, at a clear monthly price and with the domain name in your name, a subscription is the way to go.

Frequently asked questions

Are there set-up costs?

No set-up fees. Your example is always free. If you say yes, you pay the first month when you order, and we start building.

Does asking commit me to anything?

Asking for an example, or looking at it, doesn’t commit you to anything. A subscription runs for at least 12 months, after which you can cancel any month.

Who owns the domain name?

You do. We only register it once you say yes, and then in your name. If you leave, you keep it.

How can it be done at this price?

Because our AI does the heavy lifting and a person checks it. Here’s how that works, small print included.
